At the occasion of the inaugural flight on September 14, the connection was officially opened with a symbolic ribbon cutting by Thomas Fischer, Chief Commercial Officer Luxair, Janez Krašnja, Head of Airline Management at Fraport Slovenija, ambassador of Slovenia in Brussels, Barbara Sušnik, ambassador of Luxembourg to Slovenia, Jean Graff and State Secretary at The Ministry of Infrastructure, Andrej Rajh.
Luxembourg, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, will enchant every traveler with its cosmopolitan spirit, extraordinary insights into history and abundant nature. The route will help strengthen the economic ties between Slovenia and Luxembourg and present opportunities for travelers to explore two European pearls. Flights to the Luxembourg capital are available twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday. An informative flight schedule is presented below.
Flight tickets are available on the carrier's website www.luxair.lu already from €119 for a round trip.
»It is an honour and a big pleasure to welcome a new carieer. The connection of Luxair to Luxembourg is joining the network of Ljubljana Airport for the first time in its history. We are convinced this route to be successful and will serve business passengers and those travelling for private purposes well. We expect to handle around 12,000 passengers annually on this connection and wish that, along with its success, the number of weekly frequencies will also be strengthened in the future. Luxair is already the 19th regular carrier in the flight network of Ljubljana Airport, which from today offers 22 direct connections. By the end of September we are expecting a new connection to Skopje, and in May 2024 a new connection to Riga. Also with the help of Luxair we are expecting more than 1.2 million passengers this year, which will be 25 % more than in 2022. Just today we welcomed the 900,000th passenger," said Janez Krašnja, Head of Airline Management at Fraport Slovenija with the establishment of the new connection.
A new connection of Wizz Air to Skopje
Another new connection will be established in this summer schedule. Wizz Air will introduce new flights to Skopje on September 27. It will be possible to fly to Macedonia twice weekly, every Wednesday and Sunday.
From January to August, 2023, 832,000 passengers travelled through Ljubljana Airport, which is 32 % more than in comparable period last year. In August, more than 146,000 were handled, almost 20 % more than in August 2022. On September 14, just on the day the new route to Luxembourg was established, already the 900,000th passenger took off from Ljubljana Airport. We expect to handle more than 1,2 million passengers by the end of 2023.
