More frequent flights to Munich and Zurich hubs in winter schedule
27. 10. 2024
On Sunday, October 27, the winter flight schedule will take effect in air traffic, which will be valid until March 29, 2025. During this period, at Ljubljana Airport 14 regular airlines will be offering flights on 16 scheduled routes. Compared to last winter season, flights to the hubs in Munich and Zurich will be more frequent. The winter flight network will also be complemented by charter flights to 15 destinations. Compared to last year, a 17% increase in passenger numbers has been recorded, and by the end of the year, Fraport Slovenija expects to surpass 1.4 million passengers.
In total, the winter schedule will offer passengers 16 scheduled flight connections with 14 airlines, with the following frequencies:
- airBaltic up to twice weekly to Riga,
- Air France daily to Paris,
- Air Montenegro three times weekly to Podgorica,
- Air Serbia sixteen times weekly to Belgrade and twice weekly to Niš,
- Brussels Airlines four times weekly to Brussels,

Winter charter flights to 15 destinations
During the winter season, passengers will also have the option to travel to attractive charter destinations. Organized by Slovenian travel agencies, it will be possible to fly to Italy (Apulia, Sicily), Greece (Thessaloniki), Portugal (Porto, Azores), Spain (Madrid, Tenerife, Gran Canaria), Cape Verde, Turkey (Antalya), France (Paris), Malta, Egypt (Hurghada), Finland (Rovaniemi) and Pristina.
Significant, 17% passenger growth
Between January and the end of September 2024, Ljubljana Airport served over 1,135,000 passengers, representing a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. Similar growth is expected in October. In the low, winter season, growth is expected to moderate. Slovenia is still quite a seasonal destination, as a result of which the demand for passenger air traffic is much lower in winter than in summer. Accordingly, air carriers are reducing the number of flights in the winter schedule.
Fraport Slovenija anticipates serving more than 1.4 million passengers by the end of the year, reaching 92% of the pre-pandemic traffic levels from 2019, taking into account the permanent loss of the Balkan hub function, as direct connections have since been established in these markets. In 2019, this accounted for 200,000 transfer passengers who never set foot in Slovenia. Encouragingly, connections to Istanbul, Zurich, Brussels, Warsaw, Belgrade, and Skopje have already surpassed pre-COVID-19 traffic levels, while Frankfurt and Paris routes are close to recovery.
Novelty for passengers: online parking reservation
Recently, Ljubljana Airport introduced a convenient option for online parking reservations, available for stays longer than 24 hours. This enhances the passenger experience and more effectively caters to various passenger profiles, including those more price-sensitive. Passengers can make online parking reservations on the airport’s website.
Reduced carbon footprint and successful renewal of ACA Certificate
As the number of passengers climbs, Fraport Slovenija continues to pursue sustainable growth as part of its strategic priorities. The environmental impact of its operations is managed with great responsibility. The airport operator's environmental policy includes commitments and strategic goals in various areas, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The airport manages its carbon footprint through the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, which encourages improvements in this area. In 2023, emissions were further reduced compared to 2019 and 2021-2022, successfully renewing the Level 2 ACA certificate (reduction). Since joining the ACA certification program in 2013, the airport has reduced its absolute carbon footprint by 1,575 tons of CO2e, or 37%. The relative indicator (per passenger) has seen even greater success, with a 60% reduction compared to 2012 (a decrease of 1.5 kg of CO2 per passenger).
